Building Pathways to Success

Matilda Grogen & Lakesha Ward, Founder and Program Director

Our Legacy Lives On

We honor Bishop Leroy Grogen’s vision by continuing the work he started—serving others with compassion, dignity, and faith.

Our Story

United Outreach Church was founded in 1996 by Bishop Leroy Grogen—now our heavenly angel—and his devoted wife, Co-Founder, Pastor Mrs. Matilda Grogen, alongside their daughter and church secretary, Lakesha Sharelle Ward.

From its beginnings in Oakland, California, United Outreach Church became a true pillar of the community—serving not only as a place of worship, but as a center of compassion and opportunity. The church operated a restaurant, food bank, and clothing closet, providing essential resources to individuals and families in need.

In 2013, following the passing of Bishop Leroy Grogen, the church experienced a period of transition. Yet, the foundation he built—rooted in faith, service, and love for the community—continues to guide the mission today.

Now relocated to Antioch, United Outreach Church enters a new chapter with renewed purpose. While the city has changed, the heart of the mission remains the same: to serve, uplift, and empower those in need.

Today, we proudly extend our outreach throughout Antioch and Contra Costa County, California, continuing our legacy of:

  • Feeding the hungry

  • Supporting families

  • Providing resources and hope

  • Building stronger, more self-sufficient communities

Our Mission

With a new home in Antioch, CA, we are committed to expanding our impact and creating programs that not only meet immediate needs but also empower individuals toward long-term stability and success.

Success Stories

In the 1990's, the church’s impact was felt through its "The Church Ladies" morning show featured every Sunday Morning on SoulBeat Television. United Outreach Church was also recognized in an article by journalist Chauncey Bailey (Heaven's Angel) in the Oakland Tribune, highlighting a groundbreaking program that gave individuals a second chance at rebuilding their lives. Through hands-on training in restaurant management and workforce reentry support, participants were empowered with real skills, real opportunity, and a path toward independence.

For over 17 years, United Outreach Church Oakland remained committed to uplifting the community—feeding the hungry, training the willing, and restoring hope.
